The Summit is the annual kickoff extravaganza for the Leadership Academy.  The event follows a professional conference format and will also have dozens of professional engineers attending to interact with student attendees.  The day begins with check-in, networking, and continental breakfast.  The program then formally starts with a welcome and keynote speaker followed by breakout sessions.  Next will be a networking luncheon with another special keynote speaker, a Q & A on the Leadership Academy, and the day will conclude with a drawing for awesome door prizes!  

Patricia Walsh (OSU alumna) - currently working in machine learning at Dow Jones in NYC, previously with Microsoft and then a startup company.  Also founder/owner of Blind Ambition LLC, a speaking and business consultancy that specializes in goal achievement and resilience keynotes, as well as seminars on the topics of goal achievement, overcoming obstacles, leadership, and creating a winning mindset. Patricia has spoken at TEDX, Society of Women Engineers, corporations, state agencies, among many others.  Walsh is author of Blind Ambition: How to Envision Your Limitless Potential and Achieve the Success You want.  A 2016 Paralympian in the sport of triathlon, Patricia is also the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 paratriathlon national champion, the 2012 Patco Pan-American champion, 2014 Pan-American, 2015 Pan-American Champion, 2012 Athlete of the Year, and a bronze medalist at both the 2011 and the 2012 ITU World Championship.

Bill Bellows

Dr. Bill Bellows - Bill joined The W. Edwards Deming Institute® in October 2016 as the Deputy Director and continues to serve in this role.  Prior to joining The Deming Institute, Bill was employed by Aerojet Rocketdyne in Canoga Park,California, serving as an Associate (Technical) Fellow, focusing on "thinking about thinking" with applicability to the design, development, and production of liquid rocket engines. In a 26-year career that spanned ownership of “Rocketdyne” by Rockwell International, Boeing, United Technologies, and Aerojet, Bill was widely known for his efforts to provide insights to the advantages of thinking together, learning together, and working together.  He pioneered the development and application of ideas that include Mixed Model Management, Macro System Models, Micro System Models, Purposeful Resource Leadership, Category & Continuum Thinking, and Investment Thinking. Bill earned his BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. 


Mike Hermens - (OSU alumnus) currently a Change Leader at Breakthru Beverage Group. Previously, he served as a Senior Manager for Capgemini Consulting, where he led the Organizational Change Management practice in North America. He has worked in the consulting industry for over 20 years in the Financial Services, Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Energy Industries with clients such as: Chase Bank, Abn Amro, Allstate, Chevron, Rheem and Telstra.  Hermens holds an MBA from Oregon State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Eastern Oregon University. He currently resides in the Dallas, Texas area.

Karl Mundorff - (OSU alumnus) Director of the Oregon State University Advantage Accelerator.  He was recently the Director of Research Programs for Oregon BEST, a State Signature Research Center focused on advancing the Cleantech economy.  As Director, he helped secure an Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) designation from the Economic Development Administration, which created an opportunity for the Pacific Northwest Manufacturing Partnership to compete for more than $1billion in new federal agency grant opportunities.  Mundorff has served as President and CEO of BioReaction Industries, which commercialized an air pollution control technology utilizing microbes to digest industrial process exhaust.  Growing the company from prototype to commercial success with engagements at Fortune 500 companies such as Toyota, Weyerhaeuser and 3M.  He also served as VP of Marketing and Sales for Gardenburger, growing sales from $1m to $24m in under five years.  Mundorff holds an MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Concordia University and a BS in Marketing Management from OSU.

Monica Rodrigues - as Senior Process Engineering Manager at Corning, Inc. Rodrigues sets the vision and strategy for process engineering.  She is an expert in design, development, optimization, and cost reduction, and has made her mark on the ceramic substrate catalytic converter and diesel filter business at Corning, resulting in an annual seven-figure saving on manufacturing costs.  Under her management, a team of 70 percent women was recognized for creative engineering solutions, quality, management of system audits, and maintaining International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification.  Through groups like the Corning Professional Women's Forum and Society of Women Engineers, Rodrigues is known for her passion to coach process engineers and process project leaders.  She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in ceramic science and engineering from Rutgers University.

David Larrick Smith - Inspirational Speaker, Author, Personal Development Consultant, David Larrick Smith is one of the premier speakers, and catalyst for growth and positive change.  Known for his success as an inspirational speaker, educator, community advocate, and entrepreneur, David brings real world solutions, tangible tactics, and old fashioned good sense to every program he produces.  Smith earned his associates degree at Western Texas College and bachelor's degree at the City University of New York--Brooklyn College. 

Justin Yee - Justin Yee is an award winning engineering innovation leader who works as the Manager of Vehicle Concepts in Advanced Engineering at Daimler Trucks North America.  In this role, he creates and guides innovations that help save millions of gallons of fuel per year.  He is the Vehicle Principal Investigator for the SuperTruck 2-- looking for more sustainable solutions and reducing the impact on the planet in order to move the industry forward.  Yee holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Portland State University.
