Pillar: PROFESSIONAL

Come to learn about behavior-based leadership practices that give any professional, at any level, the opportunity to flourish.  In this workshop, you’ll learn about the key elements of leadership - character, credibility, accountability, vision, service, and confidence - and how to express them consistently.  The workshop is based on the book Spark by Angie Morgan, Courtney Lynch and Sean Lynch.  We’ll enforce the concepts with small group discussions and some experience sharing.

Deanna Carpenter served as a career officer in the Unites State Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps Commander.  She had several tours over a span of 21 years of service.  The various jobs included construction management, construction contracting, facilities maintenance, environmental reviews, contingency construction and utility provision and system maintenance.  She deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, Guam, Spain, and Afghanistan.  Her final tour was as the Director of Public Works for the US Naval Air Station, Sigonella Sicily.  Throughout her career, she appreciated the process of learning about leadership and finding ways to challenge her staffs to improve their leadership skills. She gave regular lectures on email management, time management, and staff work.

She earned her bachelor's degree in environmental resources management from Humboldt State University, and her master's degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University

Since her retirement from the Navy, she has enjoyed her hobby of quilting and has invested her time and energy with OSU Leadership Academy and local Girl Scout troops.  She likes yoga and hiking with her husband and dog.  She appreciates that her two daughters will get to call Corvallis their hometown.
